I live in Arizona and I hope to SOON be able to start a horse rescue! It is my hope that this website will motivate others to become involved in some way in rescuing horses from VERY inhumane treatment and slaughter. On the "Web Links" and "Videos" pages, you will find websites and videos to help you become aware of what is going on ... things very few people know about. Please be informed, and consider what you may be able to do to help at least one horse!
Horses need us to help them! We need to put an end to this inhumane treatment. If you have a horse that you can't care for and can't find a home for, don't send it to an auction, have a vet put it down humanely or give it to a horse rescue. Spread the word and let other horse owners know what could happen to their precious horse! Go tell your congressmen to put an end to all this!

WE NEED TO STOP HORSE ABUSE AND SLAUGHTER!

HOW A HORSE IS SLAUGHTERED :
THE HORSES SKULLS ARE FRACTURED WITH A RETRACTABLE BOLT!
THE HORSES ARE HUNG BY THE HEEL AND BLED TO DEATH IN ORDER TO MEET THE
USDA GUIDELINES FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!
The way horses are slaughtered is cruel and inhumane. They ride
cramped in a trailer, sometimes a dangerous double-decker, for days at
a time without food or water. Then they are cattle prodded out to be
shot in the head with a "captive bolt pistol" or "stun gun" which is
designed to render an animal unconscious-not dead. The horse is often
still alive as it is hung by its hooves and throat slit.
In 1990 over 350,000 horses were slaughtered for their meat. In 2002
that number dropped to just over 46,000. This proves that there are
available homes for these supposedly unwanted animals.

Did you know :
in the U.S. there are currently four thriving horse slaughter plants.
A Large percentage of all of the horses sold at auction go straight to
the slaughterhouse, often without the knowledge of the sellers. There
is a huge (more than million and 100,000 slaughter horses per year,
according to the USDA) horse meat industry operating in the US.
What horse deserves to die this way?
There are several countries that use the beautiful, royal and
gracefull horse for food .FACT: In the last ten years more than three
million American horses have been slaughtered. They are butchered in a
handful of foreign owned slaughterhouses that are scattered about the
U.S.
Why are so many horses being killed? To supply the market for horse
meat in France, Belgium, Italy, Mexico and Japan. Yes, America's
precious horses are being slaughtered so people in foreign countries
can eat them!

Mad Cow Disease: Facts, Resources, and Free Veggie Starter Kit
Available from the USDA is a pamplet promoting the eating of horsemeat
in this country. The USDA is the authority over the transportation of
horses to slaughter, and regulates the methods under which they are
slaughtered. The fact that the horse has to be bled out being part of
the regulations that causes the horses throat to be cut, while it is
still alive, letting it's heart pump the blood from the system!
The USDA's Meat & Poultry Hotline (1-800-535-4555 ) will send you a
publication, paid for with your tax dollars, to help you learn how to
select good horse meat, proper storage and cooking.
